Ed grew up in a Christian home in Montgomery, Indiana. He was the fourth-born of the family's nine children. During his formative years, the family was always very involved with church activities, and after personally accepting Christ during his early teen years, he was baptized at Providence Mennonite Church in Montgomery, Indiana. He and his wife Coleen, grew up in the same community, knew each other at church and school, and in 1977, the childhood sweethearts were married. Today, they have three sons: Garret (married to Sarah), Grant (married to Emily), and Clark. All three of their sons have been to Romania as members of day camp teams.
Although Ed had interest in mission work for many years, he first became involved with RHM after his oldest son went to Constanta with the camp team. Seeing the impact this experience had on his son's life, Ed's increased interest led him to accept an invitation to be on the Board of Directors. He has now made the trip to Romania several times for the camp and as a member of the RHM-RO Board.
He has worked in the coal industry since 1975, and has worked with Cincinnati Bulk Terminals as Sales Manager since 1997. His family has been a part of the life of Faith Church in Milford, Ohio, since moving to the Cincinnati area in 1997.
