Dorothy was a co-founding member of the RHM Board of Directors. She was the first of three children who were reared in a missionary-minded family in Brownsville, Tennessee, where she asked Jesus Christ to live in her life at an early age. In 1963, she married Gerry, with whom she had two sons who are now married and parents. Before marriage, she taught school in Cuba and in Ohio, and after marriage, in Michigan until the birth of their first son. Her classroom then became her home for the next twenty years. The family moved to Cincinnati in 1966 where she became a leader in school and church activities.
She earned her Master's degree and volunteered for 12 years as a counselor in the Teleios Center of College Hill Presbyterian Church. With Dr. Gary R. Sweeten, she co-authored a course textbook for Renewing the Mind, and developed an accompanying teacher's manual for Equipping Ministries, International, an organization she represented for several years in many states and foreign countries.
Dorothy has been to Romania several times to help conduct summer day camps, and anticipates further trips to love and encourage aging parents who must cope with the suffering they feel and see in their children. "It is heartbreaking to see aging parents who will have to leave such needy children behind with no one to care for them. I love it so much that I think I must have been born for this."
Some of her interests (beyond grandmothering) are writing, photography, and mentoring younger women.ge Name Here
