In June 1999, thirteen teenagers and five adults went for a
second, more expanded, and more independent day camp.
This time caretakers and parents received some basic
communication skills training. The theme was “...bringing
hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11).” That year, we began
two traditions: 1) Each American team member visited the
home of two Romanian campers. 2) RHM hosted a farewell
dinner for all the campers and their families.
In the spring of 1999, then board member, Mrs. Barbara
Ardell, was exploring the Internet when she discovered and
began communicating with a Romanian pastor, Rev. Paul Banu,
who was at that time Associate Pastor of an evangelical church
in Constanta. When he learned of RHM's vision for ministry to
the plight of physically impaired young people in his city, he
believed that he had found a ministry whose efforts his church
would want to encourage.
